What To Do With Unused Office Furniture

As your business grows, you want to reflect your success by updating your office furniture with something newer, more modern or perhaps just more expensive looking. Even if the old furniture is still in good shape, sometimes it just doesn’t go with the new look and you need to get rid of it. But getting rid of it can be tough, especially since just throwing it in the local landfill isn’t exactly the way your business wants to be viewed.

You will find you do have more options than you may think and you may choose to try to recycle it first. There are many environment friendly green groups around that make it a goal to keep as much out of the landfills as possible. They will take your old furniture and find a new use for it. They may sell it, donate it or even send it to another country that is in need of it. When furniture is beyond repair, it will be dismantled and broken down so that each piece can be recycled.

Charities are another way to go. Any form of donation helps them to help others, and they’ll be able to pick up the old furniture and sell it for whatever profit they can. This not only allows you to help someone else, you may also be able to claim a tax deduction for your business through it.

Contacting a few of the local non-profit agencies is something else you can do. They are always looking for help in furnishing their workspace. Since money is often low in these organizations, buying new furniture is the last thing they think of or can do. So you can really help make their working environment easier.

Checking out the area schools to see if any are in need of what you have is another option. Budget cuts are making it harder for schools to pay for supplies and fund programs for their students, so anything that can be donated is a big help. This also goes for any old computers you may be getting rid of, they are always appreciated.

If you’d like to make a little money from your old stuff, consider auctioning it off. A local auctioneer will be happy to help you with that, of course there is always a little fee included, but you won’t have to worry about what to do with it. And, they always manage to sell everything, even if it is just for a little bit of money, making sure all of it is gone to a new home.

If you really want to get rid of it fast and not worry about waiting for others to inspect it before deciding if they want it, try freecycling. This is when you advertise it for free or even put up a “free” sign somewhere to let people know you are giving it away. People love a bargain but they go crazy over free stuff. This is one guaranteed method to get rid of most, if not all of it, fast.

It doesn’t matter whether you are just redecorating the office or closing shop, something has to be done with the unused and old office furniture. Looking at all your options and choosing the one that fits your company and needs the most will allow you to do this easier than it may seem possible. And, you’ll be helping the environment by keeping your stuff out of the landfill.
